Capelets are very easy, and this version is especially so as it consists
of a long rectangle twisted into a Moebius
strip so it stays put and looks more interesting.
It's completely reversible. We made this one in warm yarn
and spring colors, to help keep you warm in style through weather transitions.
Beginner.
40"/100cm long, 10"/25cm wide (38"/9").
On stockinette, 7 st = 4" (10cm)
XL-XXL, (Medium-Large).
Cast on 16 (14) stitches, preferably using an invisible cast-on. Our favorite explanation of this technique is in Barbara Walker's "Knitting from the top down", or you can find variations in Elizabeth Zimmerman's books. An alternate is based on a crochet chain and can be found at Kittyville.
Knit in garter stitch (knit every stitch, every row) till rectangle measures 40" (38") long.
Lay the scarf down flat, and flip one end 180o.
Join ends together in this position, with a single twist left in,
preferably by grafting. See the excellent
instructions at
Bagatell
if you're not familiar with the process.
Work in ends with yarn needle.
